Name: Tifa Lockheart
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII (Original game)
Timeline: Shortly after the ending of the game.
History: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tifa_Lockhart
Character Personality:
Tifa foremost is a very strong person. Having gone through the deaths of both her parents, she displays an independence and maturity beyond her years. The turning point in her life, when Sephiroth burned her village down, killed her father, and nearly killed her, could easily have caused her to crumble and live the rest of her life meek and traumatized. Instead, she pulled through and established herself as a warrior, training with a master. She made a life for herself and went on as a stronger person because of it.
The Nibelheim incident not only shaped Tifa’s strength of character but also shaped her sense of justice. She has a strong sense of right and wrong and is proactive in her approach to both. Hating ShinRa and its destruction of the planet, Tifa joined the terrorist group AVALANCHE to help in its efforts to shut ShinRa down. In this, she had a desire to get revenge for her father and Nibelheim, but she believed as well in the cause to help the planet.
Alongside her strength, Tifa has definite vulnerable and emotional side. Her courage doesn’t diminish her sensitivity, though she does tend to bury her feelings deep inside her. She feels things very strongly even if she doesn’t voice it. Tifa has difficulty putting into words exactly what she’s thinking and feeling when it comes to emotions, but her meaning comes through in her actions and in the support she gives to those she loves.
Tifa is not someone who is easily discouraged. She tries to keep an optimistic outlook on things and encourages others to do so as well. Even as things get worse for the party, Tifa encourages the others to stay strong and believe in themselves.
This comes out more prominently with Cloud. Cloud is someone who Tifa never stops believing in, and inspires the others to follow suit. From the first time they reunite, she knows something is wrong with Cloud and tries to help him through it. When he begins to doubt himself after having episodes of losing control due to Sephiroth, Tifa insists that he’ll be okay and that he shouldn’t falter from his mission. She stays by his side when he is bound to a wheelchair following mako poisoning, and she’s the one who walks him through his muddled memories to realize who he really is while in the Lifestream.
Tifa is like this towards Cloud because, despite being a strong, self-sufficient person, he is also her whole world. She is not dependent on him, but he’s a part of her heart so much that she would do anything for him. He is symbolic for her: a hero to save her. But he is also a very real person who she cares so deeply for, and because she is a strong person, she can also become a hero to save him. The balance for Tifa with her feelings for Cloud is that she doesn’t want either of them to be incapable of fending for themselves, but she wants them to be close and rely on each other in the way people who love each other do.
Tifa’s not someone who is infallibly optimistic; at times it might be best to describe her as hopeful rather than optimistic. She admits that she’s scared and worried at various points, mostly to Barrett, who she is closer to than the other members of the party. A lot of the time, she keeps her worry inside, this reflected by her not saying anything at all. (“…”) This is shown when Cloud is still mixed up about the past and is relating memories she knows he cannot have. Instead of confronting him head on about this, it worries her so greatly that she says nothing at all, confused and scared about what it could mean for Cloud and for herself as well. She shows not necessarily weakness in this, but simply a very human reaction: to gather things deeply within and keep them pent up until one knows how to deal with them.
Tifa is often seen putting others before herself. She is an extremely empathetic person and tends to become more concerned for others well-being before her own. Naturally, this is seen quite easily with Cloud, as she lets her actions be determined by what’s happening with him; if he’s sick, she’ll stay with him, if he’s in danger, she’ll try to help him, and so on and so forth.
Her selflessness is seen with the other members of the party, and Aerith in particular. Aerith and Tifa immediately recognize each other as “rivals;” it’s not difficult to tell when someone else is interested in the person you love. While Cloud might be dense as a brick about the matter, Aerith and Tifa can sense what’s going on upon their very first meeting. However, Tifa (and Aerith as well) doesn’t follow the path of “jealous love interest” and compete with Aerith over Cloud. She is able to look past whatever may be going on with Cloud and Aerith to recognize what a good and wonderful person Aerith is, and she soon cares about her very deeply. While there is the strong possibility she might lose Cloud to Aerith, Tifa doesn’t let this stop her from developing a relationship and considering Aerith one of her best friends.
One of the reasons she seems to be able to do this is that she recognizes that her feelings are not something that takes first priority in the situation. In a war setting with comrades dying and Cloud himself suffering through mixed memories, she wants to help him and be near him, but knows she can’t expect anything like a relationship. She’s realistic to know that her love for Cloud is not something she can push or even make much known. Whatever happens with Aerith and Cloud, Tifa will not put herself into a rivalry because there are more important things at hand.
Character Abilities: Tifa is a well-trained and talented martial artist, specializing in hand-to-hand combat. She fights with armored gloves, claws, or knuckles in addition to delivering powerful kicks to her opponents. When she fights, she typically uses a combination of punches and kicks. She’s an excellent fighter and capable of taking on a variety of enemies.
Tifa has a variety of special attacks she uses while fighting. They are typically attack-based, such as the ability to throw her opponent with a kick and also backdrop them. However, she has a few attacks that are elemental, specifically water and fire, such as delivering a wave of water while she kicks her opponent, or summoning a dolphin to uppercut the enemy. Her high attacks are a bit more explosive; she’s able to slam down into her opponent and cause an explosion, or pack an explosive reaction from a single punch.
Tifa is very fast and agile in addition to her fighting skills. She makes a good thief due to her speed. She has good stamina to be able to withstand attacks and make it through lengthy fights. Her ability to use materia is pretty average, and when using it in her weapons she can give elemental-based attacks, such as ice, fire, lightning, and many others.
Character Weaknesses: Tifa has difficulty opening up emotionally to people and often puts up a tough front not to worry others. In a lot of ways, it works out fine for the setting she’s in to not get too emotional about things, but it holds her back in many other ways and is more difficult for her than anyone. By hiding everything inside, she tends to get no resolution or results she doesn’t want from situations. Her selflessness is not necessarily a weakness, but it is also hard on her. She may put herself into danger while thinking of others, which will just in turn cause others to worry about her.
Cloud in particular can be a weakness for Tifa. The moment he reenters her life, she goes out of her way to keep him close to her and is always keen to help him with the mental issues he’s going through. She’s particularly selfless when it comes to him, and she’ll often make rash or emotional choices based on what’s going on with him. Even when Cloud doesn’t show much attention/affection to her, Tifa remains by his side and determined to help him.
Tifa is fine at using materia, but it’s definitely not her strong suit, and she’s better suited to physical fighting than magic.
[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]
What are the abilities that your character will retain in Soul Campaign? Luckily for Tifa, she’ll retain a lot of her abilities in Soul Campaign because she doesn’t rely much on magic. She’ll still be a powerful fighter, but her strength might be toned down a bit. She doesn’t have super-human strength anyway but it’s definitely more than a usual human, so she might be reduced to a more normal human level.
She might be dismayed at the loss of materia and spells, especially ones like Cure, but it won’t hold her back much.
What are the weaknesses that your character will lose or gain in Soul Campaign? It’s hard to say if Tifa will open up more emotionally upon coming to Soul Campaign. It depends on the people she interacts with and how comfortable she becomes with people there, but it could take a long time because that remains a trait of her personality, and that comes as a result of staying strong through tough situations she’s been in. As throughout a lot of her life, she’ll likely hold a few people very close.
Physically, she’ll probably try to make up for any loss of strength with the weapon/meister system. I can’t see it becoming a weakness for her, because instead of wallowing in any loss of materia or strength, she’ll just work even harder to overcome that.
[ WEAPON ONLY SECTION ]
Why your character should be a Weapon: Tifa is a top-rate fighter and works very well as part of a team. She enjoys being around others and working with others for a cause, so she’d easily be able to adapt to a partnership with someone wielding her as a weapon. As a weapon, Tifa would see herself as equally important to the meister she’s paired with and wouldn’t feel like she was being controlled. She could hold her own and not lose herself in the partnership.
What is your character's Weapon form?: Tifa’s weapon form will be her ultimate weapon, the Premium Heart glove (only one as she can’t have two separate forms). It has a solid silver and gold frame that fits around the hand, and atop the knuckles is a large, rounded armor piece of blue, flanked with gold protrusions that align with the forearm. Basically, it looks like a large, unusual boxing glove.
Tifa’s attacks will be attack-based. The knowledge of how to use these attacks will be given to the meister upon resonation.
First ability: In the Beat Rush attack, she will deliver a series of 3 punches per round, and the strength of each punch is good but not strong enough to take down very powerful enemies. It depends on how strong the enemy is on how quickly it can be taken down: with weaker enemies, one or two rounds would be sufficient, but with stronger enemies, it could probably take 4 or 5. This attack will only be able to be used about 5 times before it starts to take too much energy, so it’s not really an ideal attack for very powerful opponents when Tifa and her meister are fighting alone.
Second ability: When Tifa throws the enemy in the Meteor Strike, if for example, she throws them to the ground, the impact is enough to crack the ground beneath the enemy. The damage from this will be able to take out weaker enemies within one strike, but may only partially damage stronger enemies. When an enemy is thrown at a distance, they can be thrown several yards away. In this, the impact to whatever they hit will not be as severe as it would be upon slamming them into the ground, but it could daze the enemy and also buy time to gear up for another attack. Ideally, the attack would be used in a combination, such as throwing a distance away to buy time for a slamming into the ground.
Third ability: In Final Heaven, when Tifa delivers the punch in this attack, a force of fire is expelled from her punch toward the enemies, enveloping them. The force of the fire will be propelled forward and away from Tifa and her meister, as if there’s a line drawn from the fist forward. There’s the possibility of allies being harmed in the blow if sufficient warning to stay behind is not given.
The fire explosion propelled forward onto enemies will span a radius of 5 yards back, so this attack is best used on one powerful enemy or several that are nearby each other. The attack can incinerate enemies, and the damage depends on the strength of the enemy: incredibly powerful enemies can be badly damaged and left handicapped for the rest of battle, and moderately strong enemies would be destroyed quickly.
